The "harm" in using this prayer is that it is taken from The New Testament of the Bible. This clearly makes it a Christian prayer. This would be fine if everyone who walked through the doors of NA were Christian, but the truthis that most of us when we first get here have real problems with religion of any kind. And even after we have been here a while we don't care to have religion forced on us. There are also addicts of MANY OTHER beleifs who attened our meetings. Not to mention those who may consider themselves Atheist. To use the prayer of ANY religion in our meetings , is an emplyed endorsment of that religion by NA. To do this will make many addicts feel uneasy or even unwelcome in our meetings. We must be able to have a safe place to develop a relationship with a higher power of our own understanding. AA's co-founder Bill W.'s opinion of this matter has nothing to do with NA traditions.
