I once heard a story about someone seeing a butterfly struggling to free itself from its cocoon. The compassionate and concerned person chose to extracate the butterfly by cutting away its obsticle only to find to his shock and dismay that he had inadvertently condemned the butterfly to a shortened lifespan. The poor butterfly could not fly and find nourishment. It was forced to remain for the remainder of its life in a prison of sorts.

Let us be extremely careful that in our zeal, enthusiasm, and compassion to HELP our newcomers that WE NOT "rob them of the struggles that are necessary for their very strength and survival". Just as the poor butterflies wings are strengthened through the mometarily, seemingly futile struggle of breaking free of its cocoon - we addicts are strengthened through sometimes seemingly pointless situations (at the time of occurance) that later we know were necessary.

I recently heard someone share, "I am here to make your road easier and you don't have to do some things because I've done them for you." HELP or HARM? Let's learn to love and support without trying to "make anything". CAN WE?
