hello all
I went to Hibbing MN last night for an outreach trip to see how the meeting went but it was not our first priority
we went togrand rapids and there was no meeting so we piled back in the van and truck and headed on down the road to hibbing. we talked to the people there and found out how outreach works. this was the response we got to our visit "Preston, I have to say this right off the top. All you wonderful "Addicts" attending our meeting last night was probably the best thing that could have happened to us. No lie. You weren't there for the beginning of the meeting so you didn't hear that that meeting was just the 96th meeting of N.A. since the meeting restarted. N.A. in Hibbing has struggled over the years, starting and stopping at least three or four times in the last 6-8 years. I don't believe that it has ever gone over 105 consecutive weekly meetings ever. At least that's what I gather from listening to the three people who restarted the group this time. Hopefully, and the God of my understanding willing, we as "Addicts" in recovery will be able to keep this wonderful "gift" Going here in Hibbing well into the new milleium. There is definately a need for this program here on the range, no doubt. As a group, we have some people with multiple years of being clean and sober, as high as 21 years. I have 12 years myself, and I thank God everyday for the amount of clean time He has seen fit to allow me to gain. It has truly been a pleasure to be a part of a fellowship as rewarding as N.A. Lately, however, we as a group, have lost the "Fire" so to speak. Oh, our meetings have been wonderful and there is a great amount of love floating around those old tables, but there has been a definate lack of enthusiasm recently. Last night when you guys showed up, it was well, like a small miracle. It was like a shot in the arm. (No pun intended.) I haven't heard that much laughter, that much excitement, that much wisdom, in quite some time. It was so refreshing, so bubbly, so motivating, i get excited even thinking about it now. My good friend Ted (The Chairperson) and I sat out in front of my house after taking the patients back to the treatment center till almost mid-night talking program, and talking about you guys being a "Gift" for showing up last night. I guess what I'm trying to say here in a very round about way is... thanks for making last nights meeting something we will remember for a very, very long time. Thanks also for the list of area meetings for the year 2000. We, as a group, have wanted to become active in our area for a while now, but couldn't figure out who to contact, so you being there last night really opened a door for us. (Another godincidence) We all know that unity is a key for group survival, and that being active in the area, has tons of value, so there again, you guys presense at our meeting probably helped us more than you will ever know. Keep in touch, let us know what's happening on your end and I promise i'll do the same. Make it a great day Preston, and please be sure to tell the others of the definate positive impact they made on our humble little group of "Junkies."
Yours in recovery,
Bob C.- Hibbing N.A.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am truly grateful this program helps me grow as well as others. The hope is contagious up here in the wintery north at the moment. NA is here for anyone they just have to take it
