Dear Lenny,

There are several different positions among our membership, all of which I think are valid. What a person thinks or believes is dependent on what they have experienced, what is true in their experience. That is why we are so intense about sharing our experience, as opposed to all our ideas.

So, what happens when someone with an extremely limited variety of sexual experience is placed in a meeting or other recovery setting where these differences of experience become known. You gotta allow for everything from moral indignation to occasions of curiousity. NA will allways be a rough mix when it comes to this, reflecting the rough mix which is humanity.

Gay members should be no different than any other sincere addicts seeking recovery. Fact is, they play around a lot, some have criticised exclusively gay meetings as being not so focused on recovery. I report this because it is what has come to me. I know several gay members who are doing just fine in recovery, so don't think my observation critical or disparaging. Some good, well written recovery material could surely help the situation. We all seem to suffer the 'gosh, I want to be sincere but I just ain't hurtin' so bad anymore' syndrome. Hey, get real. Addiction doesn't just kill you, it screws up your life and the lives of everyone who cares about you to some degree. Even if it is just they hate to see you go down. Recovery, on the other hand, opens doors in life long closed to us. Let us live.

Thanks for you input. Just want you to know we are watching and we care.

In Loving Service,

Bo S.
