Dear Tough Girl,

One of the realities we have to face is that our Fellowship is subject to the high/low wave action of all life. We passed through a high point twenty years back doing the Basic Text. A trough allways following such a high point. If we characterize the high point with things like Fellowship wide involvement and universal information tools, the low point would be little involvement and poor or lacking information tools. So, God granted us the internet! Our loving, caring, Fellowship wide membership is quickly getting a clear picture of what happened, how we have succeeded and how we have fallen short: in essence, we are becoming self-aware again.

The reason I am into writing is that it just hurts me too much to see good members divided where there is NO written material to help them resolve their different information bases or perspectives. The members who are harsh have been led to believe that we are not free to do what we are doing. They have been told by their leadership that only projects approved by the world committee can enjoy the support of the Fellowship. So, to themselves, they are the good guys taking up for NA and our common welfare. We may be more informed that they are but we can't let ourselves bash their heads for not knowing what is not written yet. Their negativity is an outward expression of their insecurity. We wrote or produced much of what they claim to protect. They are the kind that would kill a golden goose in the name of dinner. Their value system emphasizes meat over real gold. I would rather have the conscious contact and access to the general Fellowship.

You are kind and sincere and I am sure your words will help. I certainly appreciate them. Until we have more support and focus, we have to protect those who don't understand by loving them where they are at right now. They have no way of helping themselves yet. The world wide structure has been torn apart and many don't even realize that yet. Of course, we can put it together again same way you'd rebuild a building if it had been bombed.

I don't think many members really studied spirituality when they were trying to correct our service structure when they should have been working on themselves. The NA Tree, the Service Manual and other documents exist to describe what worked for us last time. We may be able to do better but we had best survey what has happened, learn the material that has gone before - especially the parts designed to keep NA loving and spiritual and then try to build. YOU are rebuilding already with your loving concern.

In Loving Service,

Bo S.
