Dear clem'G,
For good reason, we don't have hard and fast rules on this. There may be some guides that apply from World H&I, hope its still there. Common sense should play some role here. If the expense is $1.23 for gas, it should not even come up. If it is $15.63 or similar, it might need to be covered by the H&I Committee under the 7th Tradition, "we are self-supporting through our own contributions." Any Committee that arbitrarily spends the money or resources of its members is unkind and possibly unintelligent. Some can pay the $15.63 (arbitrary amount) but one some level, we don't want our members feeling, "Gee, I'm really something. I pay $15.63 in gas, more or less, every time I go to that meeting. I know giving is not for personal agrandisement but hell, that adds up, you know. $15.63 a week is $62.52 a month, $781.50 a year. I mean, why should I have to pay my way into the dance?" Our disease can always find some little angle to play against us. It is a set up for a resentment, a conflict and a relapse. It actually isn't the money at all, it is the sense of personal responsiblity and care our groups take to protect our members.
Hope this helped some.
In Loving Service,
Bo S.
PS: that'll be $15.63 please...
