Dear Fellow Members,
The anxiety, pain, discomfort, and disorientation that accompany real personality change seems to get brushed under the rug because it seems negative and there is not much we can do about it. One thing we have learned though is that even when we cannot change the facts, we can effect important helpful changes by changing our attitude towards what is happening. Just like the runner who understands that the breath much be adjusted to give the body the extra oxygen it needs as well as to clease the waste products brought about by the exertion, the feeling becomes more like a healthful state. The mild embarrassment I sometimes feel when I compensate for my tendancy to be partially honest is nothing compared to the insurmountable wall that used to be there.
The company of other members who can relate to your feelings and may tell you which feelings should be acted on and which may be safely ignored. Make sure you are with 'members' because it is their identification with us that protects us, partially.
In Loving Recovery,
bo S.
