I have 9 months clean after having 5 years & relapsing. In the past several months, I have applied more effort than ever in learning to live the steps & traditions. I know this opportunity came from my Higher Power. In your experience what happens when a group has a business meeting and makes decisions for that group and NA as a whole without having the spirit of the group conscious present? My home group had a business meeting and elected officers after years of being stagnant. This group has taken on the personality of the one with the most clean time, 17 years. My home group has been in existence for 12 years. The business meeting that night was calm, ordered, and in unanimity. There was such a wonderful spirit present. It was an announced meeting by the old-timer herself and her sponsee, neither of which showed up. We went ahead and had the business meeting after consulting with some of the folks that regularly attend that meeting. We elected more officers as the group treasurer, who was present, was the only officer for the group at the time. We changed one of the old policies re mandatory clean time of 2 years based on the fact there are only 5 active members of that group and only 2 meet that requirement. We decided we had to take into account other factors besides clean time but not forget clean time. When we came into our home group meeting the other night, it was announced by someone who is no longer an active participant in the group, that we would have a group conscious following our regular meeting. She was asked to attend by the old-timer and chair the group conscious. The end result was far from what the old-timer and the person that chaired that meeting, have taught me in years past of what a group conscious/business meeting should be like with principles at work. We were left confused and felt violated. Everything we had been taught was turned and twisted to meet personal agendas by those who took over our group conscious/business meeting. The trusted servants tried to speak but were not able to be heard by those present. They said our minutes nor our previous meeting where we elected officers was valid. There were 13 people there that night for that business meeting, in the past there have been 4-5. Who really should be present in a group conscious/business meeting besides the members? Who can chair a group conscious/business meeting? I know what I've seen and been taught and read could fit in a thimble. What has been your experience, strength, and hope? - In humble service, Theresa
