Gee, seems that you can't take addicts anywhere! There will always be some "members" that have private conversations while the readings are being read, while others are sharing, at the coffee pot, outside in the hall, outside the window by the facility....Addicts like to talk. There are a couple of things that WE (our home group) have tried to do for these type interruptions, one is to incorporate into the format the statement that side conversations are rude and not necessary added attractions to our meeting. We have also added that we ask that you LISTEN while someone reads .... This only works though when everyone is paying attention during the chairpersons reading of the format...Go figure. When it has become necessary, one of us, has gone to the individual addict(s) and ask that they please come outside. We (I) then explain that their conversation is making it difficult for others in the room to hear. This works, since they are now in the hall, they are out of the room, and they are invited to return when they are done with the conversation, BECAUSE WE NEED THEM!!! It's a group decision on how it is handled, NO ONE IS AN ULTIMATE AUTHORITY. We have had guns, knives, screaming, shouting and door slamming. WE have had to call the Po-lice, we have had to clean up thrown cups of coffee, We all recover at different rates, thank GOD/HP, for if we didn't,wouldn't it be boring. Wherever we meet, wherever we go there will be instances of turmoil, most of us came from there, and we don't get free of it overnight. I'm not condoning this behavior, I am saying that if it's practical it's spiritual, and in the end, through a Group decision, an answer will come... Just for today, not what if and fear of the future. Thanks for the post, helps me stay clean. Robber M., Charleston WV
