Dear Fellow Member,
The Outreach effort as I understand it, does whatever the current service structure does not do. It is a sort of form-fitting service effort. While no one admits openly to this yet, we have serious service disorders in NA and many times the focus is not on the addict seeking recovery. Outreach is a nice way to make sure the meeting directories get out, the H&I committee panels stay alive and that we continue to have base line services. Service is not a commodity and we have paid the price before getting to NA. Together, the Fellowship bands together and does what is needed. This is the important part of the First Tradition and all others depend on it. For years members who see our service structure as a power structure have used the phrase 'tradition violation' to mean you can't do anything without 'their' approval. Actually, you can and thank God, many of us do.
When loving and caring is 'illegal', we have to just keep on keeping on.
In Loving Service,
Bo S.
