Wow, what a spicy topic. Just stumbled onto these forums... so nice to have another venue for procrastination. I've definitely gotten interest based on calling myself a writer, especially in shitkicker bars. In Manhattan I suppose nobody'd be impressed. I've been monogamous for 4+ years so it's been mostly moot, but it's a much sexier job title than dishwasher or cubicle drone. Back in the day I also had lovers and partners cut me slack for my youthful excesses, based on the bullshit Bukowski mystique... "He's a writer, of course he drank all my whiskey and got in a fistfight with my dad. Of course he can't hold down a real job, he's a writer." Anybody involved in a creative undertaking is more intriguing to me as a person and I suppose thus as a potential lover. That said, not everyone shares my values. In Austin there was a popular joke: What's the difference between a musician and a large pizza? A large pizza can feed a family.
